Hamilton Beach Stay or Go 4 Quart Slow Cooker

GREAT FOR SMALL FAMILY
I bought this size because it's just "me" and I don't need to cook for an army anymore. I still love coming home to dinner being ready, like the chief was there cooking all day. Open the door to your home, and the aroma is so inviting. Grab a salad and a glass of wine, and "dinner is served". This is definitely the best slow cooker I've ever had, including the 12 and 16 qt sizes I used to use when I did have a large family. The ceramic crock pot liner is a breeze to clean, the controls are accurate, and I love the rubber seal because nothing escapes during the cooking process. It's definitely large enough to cook a whole chicken or a medium roast. Also, you can make the lid lock down (for traveling only, not cooking) when you want to take it to someone's home with your meal already cooked. I've never had anything spill out or drip.

It's a really great slow cooker, and I've given several as wedding gifts. The price is good and the brides seem love it.......

Great smaller slow cooker for couples or singles
This Hamilton Beach Model 33249 Slow Cooker makes fabulous meals for myself and my husband. We have enjoyed both a 3 lb. pot roast and beef stew on both the Low (10 hrs) and High (5 hrs, a little longer than other S/C's) settings. You have to remember not to add too much liquid (up to 1/2 cup) into the crock - for example if you like adding wine or broth to your beef, better to marinate the beef ahead of time. Also, if you use powdered crockpot seasoning mixes, best to mix only a half pkge w/ half a cup of water to pour over the meat & veggies. This is a very handsome and strongly built unit for the low price - nice strong black ceramic removable crock and clip-lock handles for carrying (locks off when cooking). Instruction booklet OK but a bit vague, for instance doesn't list sizing of meats or poultry that can fit, just not to fill all the way to the top, leave an inch or two to allow for cooking liquid, and then only 3 recipes are given - a pot roast, chili, and whole chicken...

Very handy for remote potlucks
I also have the larger version of this and it has been great. I have two complaints about the 4 Qt: 1) it takes almost 2 hours to heat something up from refrigerator temperature to hot, and 2) the power cord is about 2 feet too short. If I put my food in the pot already hot and transport it then it heats up to serving temperature fairly quickly. I primarily use crockpots for potlucks. The latching handles and rubber seal on the lid make this a premium crockpot for travelling. I would definitely recommend this crockpot to anybody. I wouldn't even consider buying a different style.
